Liverpool are floundering this season despite winning the Premier League this season and Jamie Carragher says he believes he knows why.
A 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad dealt a hammer blow to Liverpool’s hopes of making ground on Arsenal in the title race.
As things stand, Liverpool are eighth and eight points behind the Gunners. With four defeats in their last five games, it’s obvious that there is a lot going wrong.
After spending £466m in the summer transfer window, the problem is not a lack of talent but Arne Slot seems unable to maximise the players at his disposal.
Carra says Liverpool have missed a major change in football
Speaking after the defeat to Man City, Jamie Carragher explained what he makes of Liverpool’s form in the wake of their massive transfer investment in the summer.
Carragher said: “They’ve tried to take the team of last season that won the league, but in Slot’s eyes, he wanted it to be more sexy, more goals, more entertaining.
“He’s always speaking about Paris Saint-Germain. He loves Pep [Guardiola]. You hear him speaking about Pep before the game.
“His hero is Pep, so you know he’s trying to move that team towards more football and more goals, and the league has moved [the other] way.
“The league’s gone [more] powerful, set pieces, long throws, almost like a throwback to the 2000s, and Liverpool have been left behind.
“They’ve almost just got it wrong in terms of where the game’s going, and I think that’s been a big problem for them.”
Slot needs to find a fix very quickly

While it’s still early enough in the season to salvage silverware, Liverpool need Slot to find what is creating such problems for his players.
Against City, Liverpool players were isolated from each other and while the media has rightfully made a lot of noise about Virgil van Dijk’s disallowed goal, the Reds were not creating enough to beat Pep Guardiola’s men.
Liverpool need to get to the bottom of this worrying period before it turns into an even bigger story.
