Jan Molby says he’s been “speaking to people at Real Madrid” as speculation surrounding Trent Alexander-Arnold reached fever pitch on Sunday.

The right-back scored a wonderful goal to win the game against Leicester City and take his boyhood club to within one win of lifting the Premier League title this season.

After Alexander-Arnold’s goal celebration released emotion from Trent that hasn’t been seen for several months, fans are now wondering if this means that he could stay at the club beyond the end of this season, or is he still heading for sunny Spain?

Real Madrid remain the strong favourites to be the club Alexander-Arnold plays his football for next season but the lack of certainty is what is really making fans suffer.

Jan Molby says Trent Alexander-Arnold has made his decision very clear

Speaking to Anfield Index on the Molby on the Spot podcast, former Liverpool midfielder Jan Molby says that it should be very clear for all to see that Trent Alexander-Arnold has already made his decision to leave Anfield.

When discussing Trent’s behaviour and demeanour after full-time, Molby said: “He couldn’t have looked any happier if he’d have tried. It genuinely meant an awful lot to him.

He was very blunt about, ‘I’m not going to speak on my situation’. There was an opportunity for him to give a little bit of hope… He didn’t do it.

“There’s not one single person in and around Real Madrid who doesn’t believe that he’s joined them. They all seem to think that, you know, it’s a done deal and has been for a while.

“These players are not going to give anything away. The game has changed. Announcements are calculated, choreographed. For all the romanticism of club loyalty, contracts are business—big business.

“When he scored, he didn’t look like somebody who was joining Real Madrid. He looked like somebody who just scored a very important goal for the club he probably loves.

If Alexander-Arnold does leave, his celebrations this weekend will leave a bitter taste in the mouth

This might sound strange given that the winner against Leicester puts Liverpool within three points of winning the Premier League for the second time in five years while simultaneously taking the club’s title tally in line with Manchester United’s fading record of 20.

Yet, whipping the shirt off while it’s unclear whether or not he even wants to be at Liverpool any more has put supporters in a horrible position.

On one hand, Mo Salah and van Dijk have extended and so hope of all three staying has been renewed and the fact that it hasn’t been made official yet means that anything could happen.

On the other hand, if he is leaving and celebrated like that while about to leave for free, no less, Liverpool fans are going to have a tough job of making sense of it all in the summer.
