As Liverpool prepare to face Inter Milan in a vital Champions League game on Tuesday evening, will Mohamed Salah be involved?
The Egyptian has dominated the headlines since his outburst after the 3-3 draw at Leeds United on Saturday, with the Reds legend saying:
“It seems like the club is throwing me under the bus, that’s how I feel. I think it’s very clear that someone wants me to get all the blame. The club made a lot of promises to me in the summer and so far I’m on the bench three games, so I can’t say that they’ve kept their promise.
“I said before I had a good relationship with the manager and all of a sudden we don’t have any relationship. I don’t know why. It seems to me, I would say, that someone doesn’t want me in the club. But again, this club, I’ll always support it, my kids will always support it, I love the club so much. I always will do.”
Now, reliable journalist Lewis Steele has taken to X to say that a decision is yet to be made over Salah’s involvement against Inter Milan in midweek:
“No decisions made yet on whether Mo Salah will travel to Milan but LFC facing big dilemma on whether to or not in the morning. Salah was at the AXA today. Busy day ahead tomorrow: training 11.45am, flight mid-afternoon, presser at San Siro 6.30pm.”
Salah to be taken out of the firing line against Inter?
It would be a surprise if Salah featured on Tuesday night, given the controversy surrounding him, and it feels logical to leave him out of the squad.
Liverpool fans are divided about their stance on the 33-year-old and whether he or Arne Slot are in the wrong, or someone else for that matter, but playing him would be an unwelcome distraction for the rest of the players.
This is a big game for Liverpool, as they attempt to edge their way back into the top eight in the Champions League group, and while Salah is clearly world-class on his day, that hasn’t been the case this season.
Hopefully, he remains at Anfield, especially beyond January, but not playing him this week before he leaves for the Africa Cup of Nations has some sense to it.
