Liverpool have an “agreement” regarding bringing Jarell Quansah back to the club in the future, amid ongoing links over a move for Marc Guehi.

The 22-year-old departed for Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen earlier this summer, with Arne Slot struggling to see regular football for him.

Hopefully, Quansah enjoys a good start to life in Germany, with the England international looking to reach his potential moving forward.

According to The Daily Mail‘s Lewis Steele, Liverpool have an “agreement” in place with Quansah over a future contract at Liverpool, should they trigger his buyback clause, potentially making him a future club teammate of Guehi’s, if they sign him as well:

“It can be revealed that Liverpool have a pre-existing agreement in place with Quansah over the terms of a future contract should they decide to use their buyback clause that was inserted when he was sold to Bayer Leverkusen for £35m this summer.

“They like him a lot, as they do Harvey Elliott and Ben Doak, and only sold him because it seemed like good money and the Englishman wanted to play every week – something Slot could not promise him here

“But with Van Dijk most probably leaving in two years, Konate unsure about his future and Gomez very nearly departing two summers running, they will need more centre-backs in the coming windows.”

Will Quansah play for Liverpool again?

This feels like an ideal situation for Liverpool, being able to bring Quansah back if he excels, or deciding against it if he doesn’t hit the heights many expect of him, with Slot calling “really good” this year, also saying:

“Jarell is fast, strong and comfortable on the ball. He has every ingredient a centre-back for this club should have. Now the last parts should be consistency in his performances.”

As Steele alludes to, though, Virgil van Dijk won’t go on forever, and there are doubts over the long-term future of Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez, so the centre-back situation needs to be looked at.

Should Quansah mature at Leverkusen, and Liverpool eventually re-sign, he and Giovanni Leoni could end up being an exciting pairing at Anfield. That does still feel a long way off, though.
