Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa will “almost certainly” leave the club at the end of the season, according to a new update from reliable journalist Lewis Steele.

The Italian has once again had to settle for a squad role in 2025/26, even though he started the campaign with a bang by scoring on the opening Premier League game at home to Bournemouth in a 4-2 win.

In fact, Chiesa has only made one start in the league, even amid Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo’s struggles, showing that he isn’t considered an important figure by Arne Slot.

The 28-year-old feels increasingly likely to move on in the summer transfer window, which is certainly the opinion of The Daily Mail‘s Steele.

He reports that Chiesa will “almost certainly depart” Liverpool when the season reaches its conclusion, allowing them to cash in on him before his contract expires in 2028.

Is it the right time for Federico Chiesa to leave Liverpool?

Chiesa has always been a popular figure at Liverpool, with the supporters warming to the enthusiasm and team ethic he has shown since arriving from Juventus in 2024.

The Italy international is also well-liked among his Reds teammates, with comments from Alisson earlier in the season proving that:

“With the quality of the players that we have, like Federico, coming from the bench, he’s a special special for us, who is there training everyday. Everybody knows that he’s situation wasn’t that easy for the summer, but he kept working hard, and I think he gets the award for scoring the winner for us.”

Despite this, Chiesa is not the player he was in and around Euro 2020, when he helped Italy win the tournament, and injuries have robbed him of some of his potency out wide.

Liverpool would, therefore, be wise to move him on in the summer, bringing in a younger attacking option who can make more of an impact on a consistent basis, rather than quiet late cameos.

Chiesa will depart as a strange signing in many ways, rarely making an impact, despite some sporadic good moments, but leaving as someone who always connected with the fans.
