A “fantastic” Liverpool player has been offered a new-and-improved offer by the club, according to a significant claim from journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

Last season, the futures of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah were a constant talking point, with the trio all out of contract this summer.

While the former decided to leave his boyhood club for Real Madrid on a free transfer, Van Dijk and Salah both committed their futures to Liverpool until the summer of 2027.

Now, the Reds have a similar issue with Ibrahima Konate, with the Frenchman’s current deal expiring next year, and according to Tavolieri on X, Liverpool have now offered the 26-year-old an improved new four-year contract, as he weighs up his future amid interest from Madrid:

“Ibrahima Konate received a new contract proposal from Liverpool FC to extend his contract until June 2029. This offer would significantly increase his wages. Konate now considering options as he opened the door off the record to Real Madrid recently.”

Konate deserves far improved terms from Liverpool

Konate’s £70,000 per week wages are vast in terms of what many non-footballers earn, but relatively speaking, he deserves to be on more money, considering he is a key starter for the Premier League champions, also being lauded by Van Dijk:

“I think we need everyone to be at their best. He is a fantastic player who still can be better. As you saw, he is important with the goal, he is defensively solid, a bit unlucky with the goal we conceded, but obviously the qualities he has are outstanding in my opinion. He is learning, growing, getting better and looking after himself much better in order to be ready every three days as that’s what asked.”

It is understandable why Konate has been weighing up his options, with the lure of Madrid clearly big, but the hope is that he will accept these new terms and stay at Liverpool for years to come.

The France international overcame his previous injury problems last season, and if he remains that way, there is no reason why he can’t take over as the leader of the Reds’ defence after Van Dijk is gone.
