Liverpool are still attempting to strike a deal for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak this summer, but a significant new update has now emerged from journalist Luke Edwards.

The Swede is the Reds’ No.1 target to lead the line ahead of the new Premier League season, even though big money has already been spent on Hugo Ekitike.

Newcastle aren’t making it easy for Liverpool to strike a deal for Isak, however, demanding he trains by himself, as well as waiting until at least one new striker is signed before letting him go.

Now, The Telegraph‘s Luke Edwards to taken to X to claim that the 25-year-old will now be going nowhere this summer, with the Magpies putting their foot down:

“EXCLUSIVE Newcastle United have told Alexander Isak he will not be sold this summer and move to Liverpool will be blocked – sparking player fury.”

A potentially huge blow for Liverpool

Isak has felt close to signing for Liverpool for weeks now, so to miss out on him would feel like a major setback for the Premier League champions.

Admittedly, Ekitike has added great quality to the squad already, and a record-breaking amount has been spent on Florian Wirtz, but Isak could take the Reds to an even higher level, being called “world-class” by Alan Shearer.

“He’s like an assassin, the way he puts chances away, but what I really liked from talking to him is that you can tell he is still looking for ways to improve his game at the age of 25. I feel that Isak has put himself into the ‘world class’ category now, with his performances for Newcastle over the past two seasons.”

Hopefully, Edwards’ update is shot down by the local Liverpool journalists, with a move to Anfield still on the cards for Isak this summer, but it remains to be seen what happens in the coming days.

The fact that the Sweden international is reportedly furious about Newcastle’s decision surely can’t be a good thing for them, meaning they will keep hold of a deeply unhappy player who they could instead receive enormous money for.
