Liverpool have now suffered a new injury blow in the lead-up to Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Galatasaray at Anfield.
The Reds are 1-0 down heading into their midweek visit of the Turkish giants, with failure to reach the quarter-finals likely to be another nail in Arne Slot’s coffin as head coach.
It has been a dreadful couple of weeks for Liverpool, in a season of struggle, with defeat to Wolves and Galatasaray, and a hugely disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Tottenham, all coming their way.
Injuries haven’t helped the Merseysiders this season, with Alexander Isak, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni all among the long-term absentees, and now another player has suffered a blow.
Writing on X on Monday, the Liverpool Echo‘s Ian Doyle confirmed that young striker Jayden Danns was forced off through injury for Liverpool U21s against Manchester City, saying:
“Jayden Danns return for LFC for the U21s at Manchester City is cut short after only 29 minutes as he pulls up with a hamstring problem.”
Another concern for injury-prone Jayden Danns at Liverpool
Granted, Danns wouldn’t have been playing a part for Liverpool against Galatasaray, but this is still undoubtedly a worry for a player who has struggled so much with injury problems in recent times.
The 20-year-old hasn’t been able to kick on in his career – his only senior appearance this season came against Southampton back in September – and there will be concerns about him not reaching his potential, having been hailed by Jurgen Klopp in the past:
“Exceptional talents, of course it is not natural that a boy aged 18 is as calm as you like. The second goal, calm as you like, he saw when Conor (Bradley) shot that the goalie cannot take it. Don’t forget it when the transfer window opens, don’t (ask for) 12 signings!”
Hopefully, Danns’ withdrawal against City on Monday was more precautionary than anything, with the young Scouser not being risked too much on his return to the side.
It is far from ideal to see his comeback game end this way, however, and another spell on the sidelines would be a cruel blow for such a talented striker.
