Jounalist Ben Jacobs has dropped a key update regarding Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future at Anfield, ahead of “talks” with new manager Arne Slot.
In recent days, worrying rumours have emerged regarding the 25-year-old, with a move to Real Madrid not being completely ruled out.
Alexander-Arnold only has one year remaining on his current Liverpool deal and is yet to sign an extension, and one report from the Independent‘s reliable journalist Miguel Delaney has suggested his head could be turned by linking up with England teammate Jude Bellingham in Spain in 2025.
Despite this, it still looks far more likely that the boyhood Reds supporter will stay put, certainly this summer, with Jacobs claiming as much to Give Me Sport:
“Trent Alexander-Arnold will hold talks with Arne Slot. The Liverpool manager has already decided on where he will play and wants to make him part of the players’ leadership team, which will help with any new deal discussions.
“Slot is expected to share more details about Trent’s role after they have spoken face-to-face, but has remained coy for now. Liverpool are calm despite Real Madrid’s interest. They are not planning for an Alexander-Arnold exit, and Real are not actively working on a transfer at this stage.”
Our thoughts on the latest Alexander-Arnold update…
It would be a huge shock if Alexander-Arnold left this year, acting as an almighty blow to Slot, who could well see him as one of the first names on his team sheet, regardless of where he plays him. Few players in the squad possess his natural ability and creativity.
At 25, the Englishman is growing in stature by the year, and there is no reason why Liverpool supporters can’t be treated to another decade of him at the highest level.
It is important that Slot impresses Alexander-Arnold and makes him feel truly wanted when they meet for the first time, however, in order to convince him that spending his peak years at Anfield makes the most sense.
It would surely take a lot for him to move on, though, considering he grew up supporting Liverpool and is the strong favourite to be captain after Virgil van Dijk.
