Liverpool have been linked with a move for exciting RB Leipzig attacker Yan Diomande in 2026, and now a new update has shed further light on the situation.

The Reds need to bring in attacking reinforcements in the summer transfer window, with Diomande a reported target for them later this year.

Liverpool’s rivals Manchester United are also reportedly keen on signing the 19-year-old Leipzig star, in what could be a big battle for the signature of a huge talent.

Now, journalist Sacha Tavolieri has taken to X to claim that Diomande is changing agents in order to push through a summer exit from Leipzig,  with the Reds “holding off” for the time being:

EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool are holding off on Yan Diomande! The Reds have been made aware of a valid contract (running until December 2027) between the Ivorian and the agency he left for Roc Nation.

“The contract is legally registered with the English FA. Yan Diomande is also reported to have assigned his image rights to his former agency — a fundamental prerequisite, without which it is impossible to negotiate his contract with LFC. A deadlock that is forcing Liverpool to wait until the personal situation is resolved before moving forward. Wait and see.”

Liverpool can’t let Man Utd beat them to Diomande

Diomande has the potential to enjoy such a special career in the coming years, assuming he remains focused and avoids serious injury problems.

At just 19 years of age, he is already arguably one of the best attacking players in the Bundesliga, with scout Jacek Kulig saying he is an “incredible player in the making”.

Diomande’s situation looks complex at the moment, which is presumably why Liverpool are watching from the distance rather than making a move, but assuming everything is sorted, he stands out as a leading option in the summer window.

Cody Gakpo was again disappointing in the Reds’ 1-0 win away to Sunderland on Wednesday night, highlighting the need for a new left-sided player at the end of the season.

Diomande could be the long-term option to come in there, along with the gifted Rio Ngumoha, sorting the position for many years to come.
