Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie says he “fully expects” Liverpool to complete the signing of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak this summer.

The future of the Swede has become one of the biggest talking points of the summer transfer window, with Magpies manager Eddie Howe providing an update on the situation:

“He is still our player. He’s contracted to us. We, to a degree, control what is next for him. I would love to believe all possibilities are still available to us. My wish is that he stays, but that’s not in my full control. We have not received a formal offer for Alex, from any club. My wish is that he stays and we see him playing again next year.”

While Liverpool are still yet to submit an official offer for Isak, it seems more than clear that they want to sign him, and perhaps most importantly, the 25-year-old is keen on securing a move to Anfield.

Now, Speaking on his YouTube channel [via This Is Anfield], Downie has said that he “fully expects” Isak to be a Reds player come the end of the window, acting as a new boost for Arne Slot.

The Sweden international hasn’t been part of Newcastle’s training sessions in recent days, as he distances himself from Howe and his teammates.

A matter of time until Isak joins Liverpool?

At this point, it would be a surprise if Isak didn’t complete a move to Liverpool ahead of the new Premier League season, given his current stance.

It is wholly understandable why the Magpies are so hesitant to sell their best player, but they are already being strongly linked with replacements such as RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz.

Liverpool will know that they will likely have to again smash their transfer record to sign Isak, having already broken it once this summer with Florian Wirtz, but the Newcastle star could still be worth every penny over time.

If the Reds can strike a deal for him, it would take them to another level, surely making them firm favourites to defend their Premier League crown in 2025/26.
