Liverpool youngster Kieran Morrison is a player with a bright future in the game, but a new claim from journalist Jack Lusby suggests he may leave on loan.
The Reds lost 3-2 at home to Monaco on Sunday afternoon, once again blowing a 2-0 lead, and head coach Andoni Iraola assessed the performance after the game:
“I think quite similar to the game we played against Leeds. I think we played really good [in the] first half, especially the first 30 minutes, but right now probably we don’t have much more in terms of the level required to play like this. Then they were much better in the second half. In the same way we were better in the first half they were much better in the second half, and they deserved to turn around the game, yes.”
Morrison didn’t feature at all for Liverpool, and writing on X after the match, This Is Anfield‘s Lusby said he believes a loan move away is most likely for him this summer:
“Kieran Morrison the only outfield player to go unused today vs. Monaco. Told a final decision is still to be made on where he plays next season (either at LFC or loan). Interest from clubs in Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and the Championship. I’d expect a loan.”
Does a loan move make sense for Kieran Morrison?
Sending Morrison out on loan for the 2026/27 season makes complete sense for everyone concerned, with the Northern Irish attacker likely to see his first-team chances limited.
The 19-year-old still has plenty of developing to do, and a switch to a Championship club could be ideal, allowing him to play regularly in one of the most taxing leagues around, in terms of volume of games and competitiveness.
There is no guarantee that Morrison will ultimately make the grade at Liverpool, but like Harvey Elliott, he is blessed with a great left foot and class in the final third, being described as “exceptional” by Liverpool Under-21s manager Rob Page.
Keeping him at Anfield would be the wrong decision this season, with the teenager now arguably outgrowing the youth setup, and a temporary move away will hopefully make him a more rounded footballer.
