Liverpool are expected to be active in the transfer market this summer as Arne Slot looks to refresh his forward line ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Despite leading the Premier League in goals scored, the Reds have shown signs of predictability at times in attack. Something Slot and the recruitment team are keen to fix.

With Darwin Núñez likely to be sold and ongoing uncertainty surrounding Luis Díaz, Diogo Jota, Federico Chiesa, and even Mohamed Salah, Liverpool are on the lookout for versatile and dynamic attacking options.

Liverpool fans told not to be surprised by Matheus Cunha links

Plenty of strikers have been linked with a move to Anfield already, but one name has emerged as a particularly intriguing option – Wolves star Matheus Cunha.

According to journalist David Lynch, Cunha may just be the perfect match for what Liverpool are trying to build.

I just would not be that shocked about Cunha,” Lynch told Anfield Index.

His numbers are excellent – goal-scoring record, non-penalty goals in the Premier League are excellent. He can [also] do that facilitator thing which Liverpool look like they’ve needed at times.”

The 24-year-old Brazilian has impressed in the Premier League with his productivity and flexibility, capable of playing across the front line as well as in deeper attacking roles.

Character questions, but the talent is undeniable

While Cunha’s technical attributes seem like a strong fit for Liverpool, Lynch did point out that there are some concerns regarding his temperament.

Lynch said: “The only question mark would be character and some of the kind of stories about him, the things he’s done this season, but outside of that he’s a guaranteed goal-scorer, can play in that attacking midfield role, can play either side a little bit as well.

Cunha’s ability to drift between roles and maintain a goal threat makes him particularly attractive to Liverpool’s recruitment model, which values flexibility and system-fit highly.

“That just screams Liverpool”

Perhaps most importantly, Cunha’s price tag appears attainable. With Wolves reportedly open to offers in the region of £62 million, Lynch believes that could be enough to catch Liverpool’s attention.

“He’s available for £62m,” the reporter added. “That to me just screams Liverpool. Again, I’m speculating there, I know again he’s one who Liverpool have been attached to him a little bit, that’s been pushed a little bit but that’s not to say that they’re not interested.

“I’ll be fascinated to see what happens because I just think he has got a lot of Liverpool about him as a potential signing. The way the recruitment staff operate he would tick an awful lot of boxes.”

While big names like Alexander Isak remain long-shot targets due to their hefty price tags, Liverpool may pivot to more accessible – but still high-quality – options like Cunha.
