Liverpool supporters have been told to keep an eye on a move for Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams this summer.

With the Premier League title wrapped up, Liverpool’s attention has already turned to the summer transfer window as preparations for the 2025/26 season begin at Anfield.

Liverpool lost 3-1 to Chelsea on Sunday but as far as supporters are concerned, the season has already ended with fans only caring about the upcoming trophy lift at home to Crystal Palace and the trophy parade around the city once the season is officially over.

With the Reds already looking to the future, transfer targets are being linked with them left, right and centre.

The latest name to be concretely linked with Liverpool is Bilbao’s exciting young forward Nico Williams.

David Ornstein, arguably the best source for breaking insights, reported for the Athletic in January that Liverpool “looked into the viability of a deal last summer” for Williams.

Now, a season on, and the 22-year-0ld has continued in his promising rise to prominence. This season, Williams has 11 goals and seven assists in 3,050 minutes.

The Mail’s journalist Lewis Steele has now shared an exciting insight into Liverpool’s interest in the Spaniard. While chatting to supporters during a TikTok live Q&A, Steele mentioned the possibility of a move to Anfield.

He said: “I think Liverpool will sign a striker and let’s see maybe a wide forward too. Keep an eye on Nico Williams.”

However, the player’s outlandish salary demands will likely put paid to any hopes of seeing him on Merseyside. The Daily Mail reports that Williams is demanding wages of over £400,000 per week.

I’m not quite sure how Williams has come to the conclusion that he’s worth £20.8m per season but Liverpool’s owners FSG will rightly never agree to such damaging terms.

For example, This is Anfield says that Virgil van Dijk’s new contract includes wages of £385,000 per week while Mohamed Salah’s bumper deal earns him £480,000 per week.

Even despite Salah scoring and assisting hundreds of goals and winning several trophies for Liverpool, FSG haggled down to the wire before finally conceding to his demands.

Williams – who has just 40 goals including B team strikes – is certainly not worth such massive money.
