Liverpool may be losing some club legends this summer, but highly-rated youngster Kieran Morrison is reportedly closing in on a new contract.
This Sunday promises to be an emotional occasion at Anfield, as iconic Reds pair Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson bid farewell to the club.
There is also a chance that Alisson could make his final Liverpool appearance, amid rumours of an exit, ahead of a huge summer of change.
It is vital that the Reds build towards the future, which includes keeping hold of their most talented young players, and Morrison certainly falls into that bracket.
Writing on X on Thursday, This Is Anfield‘s Jack Lusby claimed that the attacking midfielder is set to extend his stay at Liverpool and sign a new deal:
“New: Kieran Morrison likely to sign new LFC contract this summer before loan move. Strong interest from clubs in Germany. Previously on radar of Wolves, Burnley and Sunderland. Current deal expires this summer but believe club hold 12-month option.”
Kieran Morrison contract extension fantastic for Liverpool
Morrison has enjoyed a fantastic season at academy level for Liverpool, proving to be an attacking talisman, but he has also broken into the first team, making two appearances.
The 19-year-old Northern Ireland youth international has so much ability, with Reds Under-21s manager Rob Page heaping praise on him earlier in the campaign:
“You see him work hard in training. Giving him the armband has given him another lift as well. We’ve given him that responsibility, and he’s absolutely shining with it. The right foot goal for me was exceptional. He’s so quick off the first two yards, and the power he gets, that’s his wrong foot. It’s not his preferred foot, but he practices in training, so it’s no surprise when he produces moments like that because he works so hard through the week.”
As Lusby states, a loan away for Morrison next season looks on the cards, which feels like the right call, allowing him to gain experience at another club.
He has to be considered a future key man for Liverpool, though, assuming he remains focused and reaches his potential, which can so often not be the case with young stars.
