Liverpool are going to be very busy this summer as Arne Slot gets set set for his first major transfer window after a very quiet start to life at Anfield transfer-wise.

Mohamed Salah signing a new contract means Liverpool won’t need to spend big to replace him but in defence, there is still a lot to do. Virgil van Dijk is still odds-on to renew his contract as things stand but there is still need for a new centre-back to join the Reds’ squad.

Dean Huijsen has been very heavily linked with a move but there is a lot of competition there but fullback is likely to be the main focus of Liverpool’s defensive transfer strategy.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold set to leave for free when his contract expires at the end of the season, he leaves a big hole behind. Liverpool will need to invest to sign a replacement given no fee will be recouped.

At left-back, there is also a need to upgrade on what Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas can offer, with Milos Kerkez, Antonee Robinson and Jorrel Hato linked.

And now, it seems as though Kostas Tsimikas, whose £75,000/week wage could go to a new left-back, has options both in the Premier League and abroad should he not want to stay and fight it out for a starting role.

Liverpool might say farewell to Kostas Tsimikas this summer

“Tsimikas staying won’t stop Liverpool doing another deal for a left-back, another will be brought in regardless,” journalist Graeme Bailey told Rousing the Kop.

“I think his people are just assessing the options. Obviously, Liverpool aren’t going to force him to go anywhere but there’ll be interest in him. I think it’ll be up to him what he wants to do.

“If he wants to stay in England there’ll be options for him, if he wants to go abroad, which I suspect he might, there’ll be options there as well. His agents are doing their job and looking around to see what the options are.”

Robertson arrived the same season as Salah has and the Scotsman has been one of the best servants the club has ever had.

While he is not the same energizer-bunny he was in his first four seasons, he is still a reliable player and will hopefully stay to compete with whoever is signed at left-back.
