Liverpool are linked with AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara more and more with each passing week, with the latest reports from France suggesting he is very keen on a move to Anfield.

The Senegalese midfielder has enjoyed a fantastic campaign with Monaco, but has likely played his last game for the club alongside Maghnes Akliouche.

Liverpool are in serious need of a midfield revitalisation. While Dominik Szoboszlai is the second-highest goalscorer this season, with 12 goals and 9 assists, his midfield partners have left much to be desired.

Alexis Mac Allister has been in an inexplicable decline for around 15 months, while Ryan Gravenberch’s lack of form this season has also not been adequately explained by the much-maligned Arne Slot.

Camara, on the other hand, is fresh off the best season of his fledgling career, and so it’s no surprise that the likes of Liverpool are trying to sign him in the summer transfer window.

Transfer latest as Liverpool move in for Camara

According to reports from French outlet Foot Mercato, Liverpool have scouted Camara for months, with sources inside the club telling them that there is a growing sense that CEO of Football Michael Edwards will approve a deal to sign the 22-year-old.

Camara is said to be ‘extremely keen’ on joining Liverpool this summer despite interest from Newcastle United. AS Monaco value the Senegal international at around €50m (£43.3m), making him a very obtainable signing.

The report reads: “According to our sources, Liverpool are also extremely keen on the deal. The Reds’ management has been informed of the recent meeting between Camara’s representatives and the Magpies.

“This information is now prompting the Merseyside club to step up their efforts to avoid being outmaneuvered. Based on typical transfer fees in England, Lamine Camara, who is under contract with AS Monaco until June 2029, is currently valued at around €50 million.”

Liverpool have endured a torrid campaign, with major question marks over resident manager Slot, but it is fair to say that the current squad is missing several profiles, including what Camara has to offer. There has been a lack of energy and drive, particularly on Mac Allister’s behalf – something Camara would help fix.
