Liverpool are “giving everything” to complete the signing of Crystal Palace and England defender Marc Guehi, according to an update from journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The Reds pursued Guehi all summer long, only to agonisingly miss out on him on deadline day last month, with Palace refusing to allow him to leave due to a lack of depth.

The hope is that the 25-year-old will still become a Liverpool player in 2026, however, and a new update suggests that he is still very much on their radar.

Writing on X, Plettenberg claimed that the Reds are “giving everything” to get a deal over the line for Guehi, still considering him a priority transfer target:

“Liverpool are still giving everything to sign Marc Guehi on a free transfer next summer, with ongoing talks taking place. The Reds are very concrete in their interest — as are Barcelona. However, Guehi are also waiting to see whether Real Madrid make a move. Max Eberl have also expressed concrete interest on the player’s side in case either Dayot Upamecano or Min-jae Kim were to leave.”

Will Liverpool beat huge clubs to Guehi signing in 2026?

This is encouraging news, on a day that has also seen the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich credited with interest in Guehi.

While they have the advantage of being foreign clubs that can sign pre-contract agreements with the Palace captain, the hope is that he still views Liverpool as his best option moving forward.

Guhi would be ideal for the Reds, in terms of age, experience and playing style, with Josef Bursik heaping praise on him, saying: “He’s an absolute tank. It’s like having a brick wall in front of you, he’s massive.”

Ultimately, the decision rests with Guehi, who could potentially still sign a new contract, should Palace do enough to persuade him to stay.

It feels more likely that he will depart on a free transfer at the end of this season, however, and if Liverpool end up being his club of choice, it could prove to be one of their most important pieces of transfer business in years.
