Liverpool are reportedly now “confident” of completing the signing of a “superb” Premier League player alongside Bayer Leverkusen superstar Florian Wirtz.

On Friday, stunning news emerged that the Reds are believed to be the strong favourites to sign Wirtz this summer, in what would be a club-record piece of business.

Fabrizio Romano was among those to provide a positive update regarding Liverpool’s pursuit of the German, taking to X to say a “formal approach” has been made for him:

“Liverpool have made formal approach to Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz! After initial green light from the player, Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen are in talks over transfer fee/package. Liverpool want the deal to be done very soon, not a long saga – to avoid surprises.”
It is a signing that would cause shockwaves across Europe, considering Wirtz is arguably one of the best attacking players in the world, but another encouraging update regarding another target has emerged.
According to Give Me Sport, Liverpool are “confident” of signing Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, with the Reds having the “financial clout” to meet the Magpies’ demands this summer.
It is claimed that the Swede would cost as much as £120m, however, so it remains to be seen if the Premier League champions could afford him as well as Wirtz, but sporting director Richard Hughes is flying right now.

Promising to be a stunning summer at Liverpool

In truth, it is hard to imagine Liverpool spending over £100m on both Isak and Wirtz, but it is still an enormously exciting update, highlighting the club’s ambition ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Newcastle striker would be the perfect man to lead the line for the Reds, scoring 23 Premier League goals this season and being hailed by Magpies legend Alan Shearer:

“His runs are superb. If you just watch how clever he is when he doesn’t get the first pass played in, he then goes behind a defender to come back in and bend his run to make sure that he is onside, then he can make a really clever finish.”

Isak stands out as a dream target for Liverpool, proving to be a big upgrade on both Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota, but Newcastle will clearly be doing all they can to retain him beyond the summer.
