It is “possible” that Liverpool could complete a stunning move for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, according to reliable journalist Lewis Steele.
The Swede is one of the world’s best strikers currently, with many Reds fans seeing him as the perfect No.9 addition for Arne Slot ahead of next season.
Newcastle are understandably doing all they can to retain his services, and Liverpool may even have to pay more than the £116m they spent on Florian Wirtz to sign him.
According to The Daily Mail‘s Steele, however, it is still “possible” that the Premier League champions could strike a deal for Isak this summer, even though there is a fair chance of it not happening:
“What I was told last week was: if Isak could move to Liverpool, he would. Easier said than done, of course. So, is Isak to Liverpool probable? No. But is it possible? Yes. It is not one to completely rule out just yet, but there is a strong feeling in the industry that the next month of the window will be more about balancing the books with sales. Without them, there is no chance they could afford a mega-money striker.”
A signing to complete a perfect summer for Liverpool
In truth, it feels more likely that Isak will remain at Newcastle this summer, but if he suddenly pushes for a move away and Liverpool sign him, it would be an incredible moment.
With Wirtz already brought in, as well as Jeremie Frimpong – Milos Kerkez’s arrival is imminent, too – snapping up the 25-year-old would make it a perfect summer at Anfield, should a centre-back such as Marc Guehi come in at some point as well.
Isak is an elite striker who could take Liverpool up a further level, with Newcastle legend Alan Shearer calling him a “world-class” footballer:
“I mean, I’ve been saying it for a long time now, we’ve got an unbelievable player at Newcastle, a brilliant centre forward. He’s a world-class centre forward and there is no better feeling than scoring goals at St James’ Park. I was lucky enough to do that. He’s doing it now. Long may that continue. Alex, we love you, man.”
The fact that Liverpool seemingly have the money available to sign Isak if his situation changes is so exciting, following years of being relatively frugal with transfer business. Fingers crossed!
