A new worrying update regarding the future of Alexis Mac Allister at Liverpool has emerged, courtesy of journalist Jose Felix Diaz.

The Argentine has been a superb signing for the Reds since arriving from Brighton in the summer of 2023, proving to be one of his side’s most consistent and important players.

This season, Mac Allister has played a massive role in Liverpool being on the cusp of winning the Premier League title, starting 28 matches and chipping in with eight goal contributions (four goals and assists apiece).

Speaking on Ruben Martin’s Twitch channel, with quotes relayed by Sport Witness, Diaz claimed that Real Madrid are more likely to sign the 26-year-old than Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi this summer:

“His option has fallen a little. Mac Allister is closer to Real Madrid than Zubimendi.

“I ask about him [Mac Allister] and they tell me they’re not going to sign any midfielders, but I don’t believe it.”

Diaz also said, “I know more things, but I can’t tell them yet”, suggesting that he believes Liverpool’s No. 10 could potentially be off the reigning Champions League holders.

Losing Mac Allister a disaster for Liverpool

While the likes of Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk are all huge figures who Liverpool must do all they can to keep hold of alongside Mohamed Salah , Mac Allister also falls into that bracket.

The Argentina international is such an influential presence at the heart of the Reds’ midfield, with Alan Shearer heaping praise on him, saying:

“There is an understanding from both Mac Allister and Salah. Mac Allister was no doubt the most outstanding player on the pitch, he was incredible. Everything that was good about Liverpool went through Mac Allister. His passing was superb, his confidence was unbelievable, [he had] the flicks and tricks.”

It does feel increasingly like Alexander-Arnold could trade Liverpool for Madrid this summer, which is bad enough, but to see Mac Allister head there as well would be even harder to take.

His father has recently said that the midfielder is happy at Anfield, however, so the hope is that he stays on Merseyside for many years to come.
