Liverpool and Arsenal are competing for the Premier League title but an off-the-pitch battle has begun as the two English sides start the summer saga that will inevitably surround the mercurially talented Florian Wirtz.

As things stand, Liverpool are seven points clear of the Gunners but with a trip to Villa Park on Wednesday evening, the Reds have the chance to extend that lead to 10 by the time Arsenal face West Ham United on Saturday afternoon.

This season’s defining difference has been the number of top talents in Liverpool’s squad compared to Arsenal’s. Mikel Arteta has a very talented squad at his disposal but Arne Slot simply has the better team. Injuries have also played a part but the depth in quality at Anfield has made the Premier League title race easier to navigate for the Merseysiders.

That could change in the summer depending on how many players Liverpool lose and who they can sign.

According to TBR Football, Wirtz is expected to leave Bayer Leverkusen in the summer transfer window if Xabi Alonso leaves.

Until now, the main reason Wirtz has not been tempted to leave the club is because the Spaniard decided to stay even when Liverpool came knocking when Jurgen Klopp announced his plan to leave in the summer.

Alonso, however, could replace Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid and if that happens, Wirtz will likely take his leave.

Reportedly, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City have been in contact with Wirtz and his agents over a potential move to the Premier League.

The midfielder is valued at £83m which will be a decisive factor.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also very interested in the 21-year-old, who has 15 goals and 12 assists this season.
