Liverpool and Darwin Nunez set to receive near-perfect offer

Liverpool are still looking for a club that is willing to part with big money to sign Darwin Nunez and they may be close to doing so.

While the Reds are working on making player sales, they are also hard at work recruiting the club’s next number nine.

With a six-year contract in place, Liverpool are closing in on a deal to sign Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankurt. It’s clear now that signing Alexander Isak is as out of reach as it has felt all summer.

Newcastle United are sticking to their guns and will not let Isak leave the club this year and while that doesn’t close the door to signing him in the future, Liverpool are not going to wait around and are signing Ekitike instead.

It makes perfect sense too. Isak and Ekitike are quite similar in a number of ways. Liverpool, unable to sign their first choice, are signing the player Newcastle wanted as a long-term replacement for Isak.

But Liverpool still need to generate revenue from sales and Nunez is the most straightforward way to do so.

Al-Hilal preparing to pay big money for Darwin Nunez

According to a report from Empire of the Kop, Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal are preparing to offer big money for Nunez.

The report claims that they are preparing an “enormous wage offer” for Nunez worth in the region of €20m-€25m (£17.3m-£21.7m) per year. That equates to a wage between £330,000 and £410,000 per week.

More importantly from a Liverpool perspective, Al-Hilal are willing to match their asking price of €70m (£60.7m).

While Nunez prefers to stay in Europe, the personal remenuration and the offer to Liverpool means it should be the near-perfect solution for all parties.

It really is a pity it didn’t work out…

As much as Liverpool and Nunez both need to part ways, it’s a real shame that it didn’t work out for the Uruguayan.

He might not be the pristine, clinical forward Liverpool are after but Nunez is an entertaining player. Perhaps if he didn’t cost as much as he did to sign, it wouldn’t have ended this way.

In many ways, he’s the perfect squad striker but given he cost a base of £64m, selling this summer is the right move.

As with any player Liverpool sells, supporters will wish him nothing but the best.
