Liverpool are close to completing a deal to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz but before he joins the Reds, he will need to undergo a medical first.

While Premier League title celebrations have only juste ended, Liverpool have already signed Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen and are hard at work to make sure Milos Kerkez arrives as the club’s next fullback signing.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s decision to leave means Frimpong takes his spot on the right flank while Milos Kerkez is getting ever nearer to joining Liverpool at left-back, replacing the outgoing Kostas Tsimikas.

But the big one that we’re all waiting to be announced is Liverpool’s deal to sign Florian Wirtz. Work is ongoing between Liverpool and Leverkusen with an agreement on the player’s transfer fee still on its way.

It is worth mentioning that transfers with fees as big as this often take longer to complete than your typical deal but we are now reaching the stage where talk of a medical is not out of place.

David Lynch shares how Liverpool may be able to get Flo Wirtz medical done soon

Speaking to the Sport Mole YouTube channel, Liverpool journalist David Lynch said that the Reds will get a deal to sign Florian Wirtz “sorted imminently” and shared some insight into how the club could arrange a medical to be done quietly and efficiently.

“It’s just about coming to an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen [over the fee],” Lynch began.

“Big optimism that will get sorted imminently, and I think that the expectation is that it will be done before this initial window closes.”

Later, Lynch added: “I think that [the medical] is something that can be done during international duty.

“Federations are usually very accommodating in terms of that, they don’t want it to disrupt their preparations, so Liverpool have got to be very sensitive around that and make sure they’re not getting in the way.

“But, there’s enough time in between training and all those things to get a medical done.”
