Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson is Liverpool’s first-choice target to oust Andy Robertson this summer, according to a fresh transfer claim.
While Robertson has enjoyed some good performances this season, there are now clear signs of him being past his absolute best.
The 30-year-old no longer quite possesses the energy levels he once did bombing down the left wing, and some defensive errors have crept in, including one that led to a red card against Fulham earlier in the campaign.
It looks like one of the Cottagers’ best players is now being lined up as a long-term replacement for Robertson, with The Boot Room reporting that he is at the top of their list of left-back options.
That shows what an attacking threat he is, while defensively, he is also largely solid, averaging three clearances and 2.5 tackles per game in the league this season. Meanwhile, journalist Dougie Critchley has heaped praise on him, saying:
“I haven’t really seen anyone else say this, so I might just be completely off. But in my opinion Antonee Robinson is one of the best left backs in the world. I like everything about him.”
Perhaps the one drawback of Liverpool signing Robinson is his age, with the USA international turning 28 later in the year.
While far from old – in fact, he is at his peak – there is a threat that the Fulham man could drift past his best quicker than 21-year-old Milos Kerkez, for example, with the Bournemouth ace another player who has emerged as a leading left-back option.
If Liverpool’s recruitment team believe that Robinson is the standout choice, though, he could be a brilliant addition to Arne Slot’s back-line.
