Some figures inside Liverpool are now reportedly interested in signing an “unbelievable” player over Milos Kerkez this summer, according to journalist Graeme Bailey.
A new left-back is a must for the Reds come the end of the season, with Andy Robertson showing clear signs of dropping off in recent months.
That’s not to say that the Scot should be sold by Liverpool, but he appears to be running out of steam and needs to be a squad player moving forward. That could potentially spell the end for Kostas Tsimikas, with Arne Slot not needing three left-backs.
While Kerkez has emerged as the front-runner to come in this summer, the The Boot Room‘s Graeme Bailey claims that Fulham ace Antonee Robinson remains a target.
In fact, he points out that the American is even the “preferred option” for some at Liverpool, as they weigh up who to bring in ahead of next season.
Robinson or Kerkez for Liverpool?
Robinson stands out as a strong option for Liverpool, following another influential season that has seen him register 10 assists in the Premier League, two of which came at Anfield earlier in the campaign.
The 27-year-old full-back has also been lauded by Fulham boss Marco Silva, who knows what a key man he is to keep hold of for his side:
“Two assists form a full-back at Anfield shows the quality that he has. I remember some seasons ago, even last season, many people were talking about his decision making, but already he’s the player from our team with more assists for sure. Being clear, what a performance from him. What a performance. Brilliant, unbelievable performance from him, and I told him at the end of the game that he has to be really proud.”
Robinson does turn 28 this summer, however, whereas Kerkez is still only 21, and that is arguably the biggest issue surrounding the former.
Liverpool will have to pay a lot to get him, but will risk him peaking within a couple of years, whereas the Bournemouth man still has most of his career ahead of him.
For that reason, the Reds still need to see Kerkez as the strongest choice at left-back this summer, but signing the £50,000-a-week Robinson instead would be no bad thing.
