Liverpool Football Club have announced their appointment of new sporting director Richard Hughes.
The Reds have an exciting and pressured final stretch of the season, coming up with opportunities to win both the Premier League title and the Europa League under Jurgen Klopp before the German coach departs this summer.
The Liverpool boss has been a revelation since he arrived at Anfield in 2015, and there is no doubt that he will want to leave the club with more trophies, memories, and success.
Whilst Klopp will be focused on squeezing out the last moments of magic, FSG have been behind the scenes working hard to put together a brand new backroom set-up to ensure that the German’s legacy is not wasted and Liverpool can continue to function at an elite level without him.
“That’s really what the job entails: you have to make the kind of good decisions which enhance the prospects of having a team that wins and excites the supporters. It is what Liverpool have done well for a very long time and the benefits are there for everyone to see.”
Our thoughts on Richard Hughes’ appointment…
It will be really reassuring and pleasing for Liverpool fans to see the commitment and ambitious intention that FSG have put into building a new backroom staff that has the experience and knowledge to guide the club in the right direction when Klopp and his backroom staff leave this summer.
Klopp’s departure announcement came suddenly and has certainly left the supporters in a state of unknown about whether the club can continue to compete with the likes of Manchester City in the Premier League and Real Madrid in the Champions League in the future.
However, the response to Edwards return has been nothing short of positive and we expect that Hughes’ Premier League experience, work at Bournemouth and previous working relationship with Edwards will put him in a great position to do amazing things on the red side of Merseyside.
With that being said, although Klopp’s departure will still be sore for the Anfield faithful, there is a lot to be excited about in the new chapter developing ahead of the 2024/2025 season.
