Liverpool are close to replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold with a move to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong now advancing at a rate of knots.

With Alexander-Arnold now set for a move to Real Madrid, Liverpool are planning to use both Conor Bradley and Frimpong to fortify their right-back role.

This season, Frimpong has five goals and 12 assists which is actually more than Alexander-Arnold’s return of four goals and eight assists although to be fair to Trent, his mind has been elsewhere.

Frimpong is under contract until 2028 but fortunately, for Liverpool, that deal does include a €35million (£29.4m) release clause with talks underway to discuss the finer details.

Liverpool are making very good progress in talks with Jeremie Frimpong and Bayer Leverkusen as they seek to move into a new era under Arne Slot, according to the latest from Fabrizio Romano.

Reporting on X, the Italian journalist reports that Liverpool are “advancing in talks to sign Jeremie Frimpong after contacts reported last week.”

The 24-year-old is a key target for Slot and Romano goes on to say that Liverpool have “approached Bayer Leverkusen to discuss the €35m release clause structure.”

Regarding talks between Liverpool and Frimpong regarding personal terms, Romano says “talks also underway on player side with Frimpong keen on joining Liverpool.”

Liverpool could have deals for both Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez very soon which would be a statement of intent

Liverpool are heading into the summer with a Premier League title in tow but everything suggests Arne Slot is already thinking about next season and has simply started pre-season plans early.

The players are flying around the globe between their remaining Premier League games which are now essentially just exhibition matches and a chance for Slot to test formations and tactics before the summer starts.

With recent reports also pointing towards Milos Kerkez being the summer replacement for Kostas Tsimikas, Liverpool could be a centre-back away from having all they need for a new-look defence in the post-Alexander-Arnold era.

If Liverpool can get their defensive replacements done as soon as possible, it will give Slot the rest of the summer to make sales and make signings in attack and midfield.

Obviously, the dream remains seeing Alexander Isak make the move to Anfield but it would take a crazy level of investment that FSG have shown little inclination to make.

One way or another, with Darwin Nunez set to leave, there will be some level of recruitment in attack and it’s exciting to see how Slot will decide to act in that department.
