Liverpool are locked in advanced talks with Bayer Leverkusen for the marquee transfer of 21-year-old Florian Wirtz and hope to complete the deal this week.

While Arne Slot and his players are partying on the top of a bus in in the city right now, hard work continues behind the scenes as a deal to add Wirtz to this wonderful squad.

Liverpool owner John W. Henry is also on the bus parade but after approving the funds necessary to sign Wirtz, he is enjoying the Liverpool title celebration while sporting director Richard Hughes advances Wirtz’s transfer.

Liverpool submit first official bid for Florian Wirtz worth €100m plus add-ons

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have made their first bid to Bayer Leverkusen worth £83.9m (€100m) plus achievable add-ons with talks continuing today as they hope to sign him before he joins up with the German national team for their Nations League clash with Portugal.

Romano reports: “Liverpool first official bid for Florian Wirtz in excess of €100m package with add-ons has been received by Bayer Leverkusen.

“Club to club negotiations underway, restarting today to get the deal done very soon.

“Wirtz already told Bayer that he only wants Liverpool.”

Leverkusen will, as per Sacha Tavolieri, request that Liverpool increase their bid. He reports: “Leverkusen will try to increase the total amount, and the structure of the payment still needs to be finalized, but all parties are aware that there’s no turning back now.

“Florian Wirtz is just waiting for the green light from Bayer 04 before undergoing his medical. A matter of time.”

Liverpool are doing everything fans have every dreamed of

After years of hoping that FSG would act as aggressively as other clubs do when top players are available, Liverpool are now doing so. Wirtz is not just one of the best players in Europe right now, he’s certain to be challenging for the crown of best in the world as he gets older.

He’s only 21 but in the last two seasons, 36 goals and 38 assists. If he can translate that to the Premier League, Liverpool will be getting a bargain even if Leverkusen somehow get the Reds to pay £120m up front.

For now, it’s just a matter of time until the deal reaches it’s conclusion.
