Liverpool are in talks to complete the signing of Atalanta attacker Ademola Lookman this summer, according to a fresh transfer update.

The Reds may well look to sign new attacking players in the next transfer window, amid doubts over the futures of several players.

Darwin Nunez’s shocking miss against Aston Villa on Wednesday night has put more pressure on him, and at this point, it would be a surprise if he was still at Liverpool next season.

Meanwhile, Luis Diaz has flattered to deceive in a central role throughout the campaign, while injury problems continue to hold Diogo Jota back.

Caught Offside, Liverpool are battling Arsenal for the signing of Lookman, with both clubs in talks over signing the £50m-rated forward.

The two Premier League rivals’ discussions are believed to be the “most advanced” compared to other clubs, with Chelsea, Manchester United and Juventus all mentioned in the report.

A strong summer option for Liverpool

Lookman could be a fantastic signing for Liverpool this summer, having become such a top-level striker for Atalanta, scoring 47 goals and registering 23 assists in 106 appearances in total for his current club.

The 27-year-old also netted a stunning hat-trick in last season’s Europa League final win over Bayer Leverkusen, while current boss Gian Piero Gaseprini has waxed lyrical over him, saying:

“He’s [Lookman] a top player. In terms of character, there are perhaps players who have more continuity and are more solid, but that’s normal. Even his role is difficult. He always has to be very fit, but he has become a truly extraordinary player, among the best in Europe and the world. Because he has improved his consistency and in some ways he has started to be an important Atalanta player.”

With doubts over three different Liverpool attackers, and Mohamed Salah still not signing a new deal at Anfield, Lookman is exactly the type of player the Reds need at the end of the season, having already been linked with a move.

He can shine both centrally and in a wide role, and he has some Premier League experience from his Everton days, with the one potential downside the fact that he will turn 28 later this year.
