Liverpool are preparing for a busy summer transfer window, with the hunt for a new centre-forward high on the club’s agenda.
With Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United also in the market for attacking reinforcements, competition is fierce but Liverpool are positioning themselves early.
While the Reds have been most heavily linked with Alexander Isak, prising the Swedish star from Newcastle United may prove extremely difficult.
As a result, attention has now shifted to alternative targets and one name stands out.
Osimhen on Liverpool’s radar
Napoli’s Victor Osimhen has once again emerged as a serious target for Liverpool. Despite a turbulent end to his time in Naples, the Nigerian striker has rediscovered his best form on loan at Galatasaray, scoring an impressive 28 goals in 32 appearances across all competitions this season.
According to Sky Sports, Liverpool have long admired the 26-year-old and could now move for him, especially with his price tag reportedly lowered from last year’s €120m valuation.
He is now believed to be available for around €70m (£60m) – a figure that makes him a more accessible option than before.
Fabrizio Romano says Napoli want a quick sale
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has added weight to the reports, confirming that Napoli are determined to sell Osimhen early in the window, avoiding the kind of long, drawn-out saga that played out last summer.
“Napoli want to sell the player as soon as possible,” Romano said on his YouTube channel. “Forget about an Osimhen saga end of July or end of August… June is the ideal scenario for Napoli. The release clause is €70 million, but they are open to other solutions.”
Romano also confirmed that there are “several options in England” for Osimhen, including interest from Manchester United, although salary demands could complicate matters for some clubs.
Other options still on the table
While Osimhen is seen as a leading candidate, Liverpool are also keeping tabs on Benjamin Šeško and Viktor Gyökeres. However, Sesko is described as “more of a risk”, while Sporting CP’s Gyökeres could cost upwards of €100m due to his release clause.
With Isak’s transfer looking unlikely and other targets coming with hefty price tags or uncertainties, Osimhen’s proven record and potential availability could make him the ideal fit for Liverpool heading into the Slot era.
One thing is clear – Liverpool are not standing still. As they prepare for the next chapter under Arne Slot, the club is determined to maintain their place among Europe’s elite.
Signing a prolific no.9 could be the next piece of the puzzle, and Osimhen may be just the man to lead the line at Anfield.
