Liverpool are “keeping a close eye” on Tottenham centre-back Micky van de Ven this summer, according to a claim from former scout Mick Brown.
Spurs may have avoided relegation from the Premier League to the Championship in 2025/26, but key players could still easily look for new challenges ahead of next season.
Van de Ven is one of those, ahead of his participation in the 2026 World Cup with the Netherlands, having been linked with Liverpool in the recent past.
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown talked up the idea of the Reds making a move for the Dutchman, as they look to replace the departed Ibrahima Konate:
“Van De Ven’s future is still up in the air. It’s an area Tottenham are going to have to assess because there are doubts about [Cristian] Romero too, and whether he could move on. Van Hecke is somebody they’ve admired for a while, and I’ve always liked the look of him at Brighton, I think he’s really stepped up in recent years.
“At first, I thought he was a bit of a typical work-a-day centre-half, but he’s shown he can be more than that and that has impressed Tottenham. So let’s say they make a move for him, that changes things with Van de Ven, because all of a sudden they’ve got another option in the door.
“Liverpool will be keeping a close eye on what’s happening there, because Konate is going to leave, so they’ll need a new centre-back.
‘There are a lot of moving parts, but we know Liverpool have been keen on Van de Ven, and if they are given any indication he could be available, they could make a move. If Tottenham are signing a new centre-back, then it might play right into their hands.”

Van de Ven is an elite centre-back who could be such a successful signing for Liverpool, having been hailed as “unbelievable” by former Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou earlier this year.
He has remarkable recovery pace, is strong in the tackle and possesses class on the ball, and at 25, he is at a great point in his career to be an instant hit for the Reds.
Admittedly, Van de Ven is a left-sided centre-back, so signing him may mean Virgil van Dijk shifting to the right-hand side, but that could still work.
Injuries are one potential drawback with the Spurs ace, as is his price tag, but if Liverpool intend to spend big on a centre-back in the summer transfer window, he has to be seen as a leading option.
