Liverpool are believed to be “keeping tabs” on highly-rated young Mexico international midfielder Gilberto Mora, as various top clubs look to sign him this summer.
The Reds need at least one central midfielder before next season gets underway, and two arguably wouldn’t go amiss, especially if Curtis Jones joins Inter Milan.
Mora has been linked with a move to Liverpool, having emerged as a standout young player at the 2026 World Cup, and speaking to Football Insider, journalist Pete O’Rourke has provided a fresh update:
“It won’t just be Liverpool who are interested in Mora, you’ve probably got all of Europe’s big guns who would be interested in the Mexican prodigy. He’s one of the breakout stars of the World Cup. Liverpool are one of those clubs who’ve registered an interest in Mora, and are keeping tabs on Mora.
“Real Madrid are interested in him, you’ve got Barcelona, Man City, Chelsea, PSG, Bayern Munich. If there’s any indication that he is ready to make a move, I’m sure you’ll have all those big teams after him. It’s going to be an open race for Mora right now, and because he’s so highly rated and one of the best young players in world football right now, you’ll have all the biggest clubs in the world trying to sign him.”

Mora is wanted by some of Europe’s biggest clubs for a reason, and his performances at the World Cup at the age of 17 have shown his potential, averaging 1.3 key passes per game.
The teenager combines quality in possession with a strong work ethic out of it, and manager Andre Jardine has waxed lyrical over his ability recently, saying:
“I’ve dedicated my life to working with young talent in youth systems, and it’s rare to see a player like him. Mexico has a gem here, it’s not normal to see a player like that, he is an exceptional player. He possesses great character, is taking full advantage of his national team experience, and he’s undoubtedly special. I believe he embodies a bright future for Mexican soccer.”
Liverpool should continue to pursue a move for Mora, given his vast promise as a footballer, and beating some of their rivals to his signature would feel like a major coup.
