It has been claimed that Liverpool are “leading the race” to sign a player who has excelled against the Reds numerous times in the past, in an exciting new transfer update.

The Premier League champions will be in the hunt for further signings next summer, if not before, with a number of areas looking short of depth in the early months of this season.

In defence, Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi needs to be brought in, or a player at his level, while a new winger who can thrive on either flank is also required, especially with Mohamed Salah showing signs of being past his absolute peak.

According to Indy Kaila on X, Liverpool are in pole position to sign Bournemouth wide man Antoine Semenyo, outlining the different amounts needed to snap him up in January or next summer:

Exclusive. Liverpool now leading the race to sign Antoine Semenyo. January £90m – £100m Summer £70m Richard Hughes in direct contact with Bournemouth. Big news.”

Semenyo next summer the perfect outcome for Liverpool?

Semenyo is maturing into a wonderful player, scoring three times at Anfield in his career, including netting twice there in Liverpool’s 4-2 win on the opening night of this season.

The 25-year-old combines pace, power and end product to devastating effect, with Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola heaping praise on him:

“Antoine is someone I would say has been improving every season. Every season he has been with us, he has played better, has added more things to his game. He has also started scoring goals, adding numbers to his overall game, and we are happy. We try to encourage him to continue this progression.”

Semenyo ticks so many boxes for Liverpool, from having Premier League experience to being able to flourish on both the left and right flank, so he should be considered their leading wide option in 2026, and a potential upgrade on Cody Gakpo.

The Ghana international is so hard to handle in full flow, not in a dissimilar way to Reds legend Sadio Mane, and seeing him in a Reds shirt is something that supporters should be hoping for.
