Liverpool are thought to be among a host of top clubs who are eyeing a move for an exciting teenage talent, according to reliable journalist Rudy Galetti.

Reds supporters have become frustrated with a lack of transfer activity in recent years, with some feeling that both Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot haven’t been backed enough by FSG, especially compared to some of their rivals.

This summer is expected to be one of the busiest in some time at Anfield, however, with new faces coming in to bolster Slot’s squad in various positions.

A long-term replacement for Andy Robertson is needed, for example, with Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez looking like the front-runner to come in currently, and a new centre forward is also required, following issues there this season.

Luis Diaz hasn’t quite managed to impress enough in a central role in 2024/25, despite some good performances there, while doubts remain over the long-term worth of both Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez for different reasons.

According to Galetti for TEAMtalk, Liverpool are one of the clubs battling to sign Independiente del Valle youth team star Johan Martinez.

The 15-year-old’s “dribbling, speed, and technical skills” have seen him compared to Ousmane Dembele, who recently caused the Reds huge problems for Paris Saint-Germain.

Manchester City and Brighton are the other Premier League clubs mentioned in the report, with Bayer Leverkusen, Parma, and Wolfsburg also seen as suitors.

Planning for the long-term at Liverpool

Liverpool fans will understandably want to see household names arrive this summer, in order to take Slot’s side up another level, but planning for the future is also vitally important for the club.

The Reds need to be in a position where they are a guaranteed force in the English and European games for decades instead of years, and signing the best teenage talent around will be beneficial in that respect.

Not much is known about Martinez, but the level of interest in him shows what a huge talent he is, and if Liverpool could pip City to his signature, among others, it could end up being a masterstroke if he reaches his potential.
