Bayern Munich are “closing in” on a deal to sign Luis Diaz with the Bavarians on the verge of reaching agreement with Liverpol on a €75m package, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist reports on Sunday: FC Bayern are closing in on deal to sign Luis Diaz from Liverpool!

“Agreement at final stages with details being sorted. €75m package with add-ons included, contract until June 2029.

“Liverpool and Bayern are discussing add-ons details… then, here we go soon.”

Since his breaking story, the likes of James Pearce, for the Athletic, and Paul Joyce, for the Times, have corroborated the story while some others have suggested Liverpool and Bayern have already agreed terms for the sale of Diaz.

According to Ben Jacobs, “Diaz has agreed terms with Bayern on a four-year contract.”

Why does Luis Diaz want to leave Liverpool and why are FSG willing to sell him?

It has been widely reported that Diaz is highly motivated to capitalise on the prime years of his career financially but Liverpool were not forthcoming with a new contract offer.

While the Colombian has been happy at Liverpool, starring with 36 appearances in the club’s 20th league title, he was not willing to stay without signing a bumper contract that reflects his status.

In 148 games for Liverpool, Diaz played exactly 10,000 minutes (which is quite satisfying) scoring 41 goals and assisting 23 more. Considering, the Reds signed him for £37m in 2022, selling him three years and four major trophies later,

Under Jurgen Klopp, Diaz developed into a borderline world class winger and should he thrive in Germany and Europe after his move to Bayern, I think he will solidify his reputation as world class.

Liverpool will now likely move to replace Diaz with a high quality forward and that could only mean Isak will be their focus.

Whether or not having the extra income will be the difference-maker is unclear – Newcastle reportedly want to hold out – but Liverpool will want to replace Diaz with a proven, prolific forward and Isak would be the perfect player to do so.
