Liverpool are increasingly close to signing Marc Guehi for Crystal Palace with the centre back adamant he won’t sign a contract offer from the Eagles.

The Reds need a new centre back to replace Jarell Quansah after the English defender agreed a move to join Bayer Leverkusen.

Before selling the English star, Liverpool were in need of a new central defender but it doesn’t seem likely that Arne Slot will sign two centre-backs this summer unless Ibrahima Konate leaves.

The French defender’s future is shrouded in doubt at the moment. His Liverpool contract expires in June 2026 which puts the club in a precarious position this summer.

If the former RB Leipzig star doesn’t agree new terms with the Reds, Liverpool will have to sell or risk losing him for free to Real Madrid or PSG as Trent Alexander-Arnold did this year.

Liverpool have done some wonderful business already this summer, signing Frimpong, Kerkez, Wirtz, Mamardashvili, Woodman and Pecsi – a blend of immediate impact and future proofing.

Marc Guehi replacement on the way for Crystal Palace as Liverpool inch closer to new signing

After lifting the FA Cup with the Eagles last season, it seems as though Guehi views his future as lying away from Selhurst Park.

After 155 games with the London outfit, Guehi is now making it clear that he wants to seek a new adventure and Liverpool are well-poised to sign him.

According to A Bola, Palace have turned to Sporting Lisbon star Ousmane Diomande – a player Liverpool themselves have been heavily linked with in the past.

The Portuguese outlet claims that Palace and Sporting have “reached” a compromise on a transfer fee for Diomande that will see the Eagles smash their club transfer record.

The two clubs have reportedly agreed on a €55m (£47.1m) transfer fee which should help Liverpool fast track their move to sign Guehi.

At £45m for Guehi, Liverpool are close to another bargain signing

Only a football transfer could see a £45million figure labelled a ‘bargain’ but Liverpool are making a very, very astute move by recruiting Guehi.

So consistent and reliable is the Englishman that I have seen many fans online comment at their surprise at Guehi only being 24 years old. His leadership skills, consistency and clean defensive style make it quite hard to believe he is so young.

Liverpool are also signing him right before he enters the best years of his career – another reason this is an awesome signing.
