Liverpool are believed to be interested in signing a Premier League player who has been described as among the best players “in the world” this season.

The Reds are just one point away from winning the league title, with Sunday’s clash with Tottenham at Anfield giving them a chance to get the job done.

It has been a memorable first season in charge at Liverpool for Arne Slot, who may only have dreamed about being champions when he first arrived, guiding his side to a second league crown in the space of five years.

The Reds must build on this success going into the summer transfer window, however, with a busy few months expected ahead of next season.

According to journalist Simon Phillips on his Subtsack [via Caught Offside], Liverpool are interested in signing Chelsea star Cole Palmer this summer:

“Meanwhile, and I’m not saying we do sell him by the way, both Manchester City and Liverpool have been sniffing around Cole Palmer for the summer, with City making an enquiry recently.”

Palmer a pipe dream for Liverpool?

In truth, this is a transfer that is hard to see happening ahead of next season, with Chelsea surely not wanting to sell arguably their best player to one of their rivals.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a sensational first half of the season, and while he has tailed off since the turn of the year, he has still managed a total of 14 goals and eight assists in the league in 2024/25 to date. Meanwhile, teammate Reece James has lauded him, saying:

“Cole Palmer is one of the best in the world, I think personally. At City, he didn’t play as much as he would like but he has come here and taken the chance with both hands.”

Palmer’s creativity in a No.10 role could possibly be an upgrade on Dominik Szoboszlai for Liverpool, although that is up for debate, despite the Hungarian splitting opinion at Anfield.

As mentioned, though, Chelsea will surely be doing all they can to keep a hugely influential figure at Stamford Bridge, knowing that selling him to the Reds or back to Manchester City would only strengthen a rival and weaken themselves.
