A recent report claimed that Liverpool are not willing to meet the £150million asking price Newcastle United has set for suitors of goal-machine Alexander Isak but a fresh claim suggests the Reds are “confident of a deal to sign” the Swede.
Late last month, a report from the Athletic shared that FSG are not willing to match the Toons’ massive price tag for Isak which would not have taken many fans by surprise.
Isak has been in phenomenal form this season, with 24 goals and five assists in all competitions, and so it’s natural Newcastle will expect a massive fee.
However, a different report from TBR Football claimed that Arsenal believe that Isak would prefer a move to Anfield over the Emirates. Liverpool are on their way to winning the 2024/25 Premier League title and with that comes greater bargaining power with new signings.
Now, a report from Rousing the Kop‘s correspondent Graeme Bailey and, if true, it’s an exciting development.
Liverpool “confident of deal to sign Alexander Isak
Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota have failed to convince Arne Slot of their place in the starting XI and heading into the summer, they may be sold to fund the first rebuild of the Dutch coach’s Liverpool career.
Liverpool are looking for a top striker to come into the squad and Isak more than fits the bill.
Reporting for Rousing the Kop, Bailey says: “As Liverpool look for a replacement, RTK understands Isak has been firmly installed as the club’s top target.
“Getting Isak out of St James’ Park will be costly and a move away from Newcastle is still far from guaranteed. However, despite a possibility their confidence is misplaced, Liverpool are understood to hold a belief they can land their man.
“However, despite Liverpool’s early confidence there remains a chance the Sweden international puts pen to paper on a new contract at Newcastle.
“Isak is understood to be on a salary well below his current market value and the Magpies are working on fresh terms for their star man.
“Should Isak sign improved terms at St James’, Liverpool are understood to be ready to pursue other targets. If no new deal is signed, it is expected that Isak will move on.”
