Liverpool have reportedly made a concrete move to join the race to sign highly rated teenager Kennet Eichhorn, following reports that they are close to signing Samuel Martinez of Atletico Nacional.

This afternoon, German football expert Florian Plettenberg dropped a claim regarding Hertha Berlin’s youngster, stating that Liverpool have ‘concretely entered’ the race to sign the 16-year-old.

He wrote on X: Liverpool have entered the race very concretely for 16 y/o wonderkid Kennet Eichhorn. Concrete talks have already taken place, as sources from England confirm.

” Eichhorn is planning to leave Hertha BSC in the summer. Release clause worth around €10-12m.”

The journalist then teased that more information would be dropped this evening. Which he has done.

Plettenberg reports: “Liverpool are certain they can bring Kennet Eichhorn to the club and have already discussed figures with the player.

“The idea would be to loan him out for one to two years. Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig, Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also in the race. Borussia Dortmund and Stuttgart are further behind.

“Two Bundesliga clubs involved in the race for the player believe he will eventually join Liverpool.”

Eichhorn and Martinez represent Liverpool’s philosophy of recruiting young, high-ceiling stars

Football talent scout Jacek Kulig spoke about Eichhorn on X in September, saying: “Superb frame, technically sharp, intelligent on the ball, and fearless against older, more experienced opponents.”

Martinez, meanwhile, has been compared to a young Ricardo Kaka. While it’s too soon to tell if the Colombian will be able to mimic one of the best attacking midfielders of all time, he does seem to be one of the most exciting young players in the world.

Liverpool have a long history of producing elite young players – from Steven Gerrard to Trent Alexander-Arnold – so both Eichhorn and Martinez will find plenty of support and opportunity while they develop at the AXA training centre on Merseyside.

The 2025-26 season was a frustrating one for the senior team, but there is a bright future ahead for the Reds. There are a lot of exciting young players at the club, including none other than Rio Ngumoha, who was potentially the brightest spark this season.
