Liverpool are keen on signing Flamengo’s Wesley Franca as the 21-year-old continues to impress in Brazil but it won’t be long until a European side snaps him up.

Arne Slot has a number of transfer priorities and among them is the need for a new right back to replace Trent Alesxander-Arnold when he moves to Real Madrid in the summer.

Losing the 25-year-old fullback complicates transfer plans signifiacntly as there isn’t a like for like swap anwywhere in football that can adequately replace what Liverpool are losing when they lose Alexander-Arnold.

To make matters worse, Liverpool will have to dip into their own pocket to fund a move for a new right back given they will not recoup a fee when Trent takes his leave this summer.

So, it’s likely Liverpool will be looking for a bargain if they can find one.

Liverpool view Wesley Franca as a potential heir to Trent Alexander-Arnold

According to a report from Caught Offside, Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Barcelona are Franca’s most notable suitors as a long queue forms to fight for the chance to sign him this summer.

Chelsea have reportedly made “initial contact” the player’s representatives to express their desire to land his signature. They are apparently ready to offer €20million (£17m) “though Flamengo are holding out for a fee closer to €30–35 million (£29m).”

The Blues will have the chance to negotiate further soon. The report adds that “negotiations are expected to intensify at the Club World Cup, where both clubs will participate, providing Chelsea an opportunity to observe Wesley.

Regarding Liverpool’s interest…

Caught Offside goes on to say that “Liverpool are also in the mix, viewing Wesley as a potential successor to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Reportedly, the Reds’ “scouting department has been monitoring Wesley for over a year, and the club have made informal approaches to Flamengo regarding a possible transfer.”

Man City are also in the mix with Wesley’s agents recently flying to England for meetings with them and Liverpool.

On Arsenal: “The Gunners have entered the race, looking to strengthen their right-back options and have initiated contact with Wesley’s camp. They are are reportedly willing to meet Flamengo’s valuation of €35 million.
