Liverpool could potentially sign Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara for less than has previously been reported, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
The 22-year-old has been one of the players mentioned as a midfield option for the Reds in the summer transfer window, having stood out as one of the best players in his position in Ligue 1.
It has been claimed that Camara could be available for £56m, as Monaco look to make a hefty sum of money on an influential player.
But now, speaking to Football Insider, O’Rourke has said that Liverpool could push harder to sign the Senegalese this summer, possibly signing him for around £40m instead:
“I don’t think he will cost a huge fee. You’re probably looking at around £40million-plus for someone like Camara, who is under contract until 2029. Let’s see what happens with any potential exits at Anfield, and then maybe then they might accelerate their interest in somebody like Camara.”
Lamine Camara or Adam Wharton for Liverpool this summer?
Camara is a brilliant young option for Liverpool, with the Senegal international and Crystal Palace ace Adam Wharton standing out as the leading choices in midfield.
Both could excel in a Reds shirt, but Camara arguably offers more legs than Wharton, with the Englishman more of a ball-player who can dictate midfield battles.
Liverpool fans will have their own style of player that they want to bring in, but Camara would possibly be the better fit, in terms of shining alongside Ryan Gravenberch, assuming Alexis Mac Allister leaves after such a poor season.
The Monaco man has averaged 2.3 tackles and 1,5 interceptions per game in Ligue 1 this season, highlighting his off-the-ball quality, and he has also chipped in with seven goal contributions in the competition, being lauded by scout Jacek Kulig earlier this season:
“Lamine Camara recorded the most interceptions (4) and duels won (8) in Monaco vs PSG. A superb performance against one of the best midfields in World football. The 21-year-old Senegalese international is such a fantastic box-to-box midfielder!”
Camara could even cost around the amount of Wharton, given the English premium that often comes into play with homegrown players, so the former represents the better value-for-money option.
