Liverpool are reportedly interested in breaking their transfer record for the third time in the space of 12 months, as they eye a move for a “brilliant” player.

The Reds head into the October international break on the back of an awful run of form, losing three matches in a row against Crystal Palace, Galatasaray and Chelsea.

It hasn’t been an impressive start to the season by Liverpool, even though they are only one point off top spot in the Premier League, and Mohamed Salah is one of many players struggling for form.

At 33, a long-term replacement needs to be eyed up for him, and according to Caught Offside, Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise is wanted by the Reds in 2026.

The Premier League champions are happy to pay as much as £130m for the 23-year-old, which would break the club’s transfer record set by Alexander Isak earlier this summer.

Is Olise the perfect successor to Salah at Liverpool?

Olise is a majestic footballer to watch, creating such brilliance from his right-sided role, possessing similar qualities to Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal, in terms of wreaking havoc from that area and wowing with his wand-like left foot.

The Frenchman stands out as a perfect option to come in and eventually replace Salah at Liverpool, with France manager Didier Deschamps lauding his ability last month:

“Michael is brilliant. He is technically gifted, he runs a lot, he is smart in his movements. He has everything that we need. He is doing very good things at Bayern and with us too. Of course, it took him slightly longer with us, but he has always had the quality.”

Olise even has Premier League experience from his time at Crystal Palace, so he shouldn’t take too much time to adjust to life at Liverpool, and as things stand, he should be the standout choice for them.

Granted, £130m is an eye-watering amount of money that few players can justify a club spending on them, but the Frenchman has the ability and end product to become one of the world’s best attacking players, already bagging 54 goal contributions in 65 appearances for Bayern.
