David Lynch reports that Ismaila Sarr is not likely to join the Reds this summer, but Liverpool could return for PSG’s Ibrahim Mbaye in the last moments of the window.
Liverpool were in talks with PSG for a few weeks over signing Mbaye, but they walked away from a deal for the 18-year-old over their belief that the Parisians were charging too much for a young player that isn’t a starter, has two years left on his contract and wants to leave.
They then moved on to Yankuba Minteh, but were rejected multiple times by Brighton before trying to sign Sarr. Crystal Palace also refused to sell the 28-year-old, and now Liverpool find themselves in their original position, needing to decide if they should just pull the trigger and pay what PSG are asking for Mbaye.
PSG reportedly value Mbaye at €70m while Liverpool only want to pay around €50m. It’s a messy situation, and one they only have themselves to blame for.
David Lynch provides update on Liverpool’s right wing transfer targets
Talking to Dave Davis on the Anfield Index podcast, David Lynch says Liverpool are not likely to sign Sarr and could return for Mbaye.
Lynch said: “Based on what I’m hearing, I probably don’t expect it to be Ismaila Sarr at the moment [the second winger Liverpool may bring in]. The way the Sarr situation was put to me was that it was kind of an enquiry that got knocked back, if it was rebuffed at £50m, there is no way they’re gonna go back in for him.”

Lynch added: “Ibrahim Mbaye is one of those I wouldn’t knock off the list just yet. I think he has the potential to come back into the mix.”

A top source on X also reports that Mbaye has “been dropped from the PSG game this weekend.”
PSG face Lille tonight, but Mbaye won’t be involved, and I imagine Barcola won’t either, as the risk of injury would be catastrophic for their respective big-money moves to Liverpool this summer.
There’s a lot to do in the next few days for Richard Hughes and co. Hopefully the summer window closes on a positive note.
