Reliable journalist James Pearce has now provided a significant new transfer update regarding the future of one renowned Liverpool player.

Amid a summer of exciting signings, Reds supporters will also be aware that a host of current players will move on to pastures new.

That applies to individuals all over the pitch, whether it be Jarell Quansah, Harvey Elliott or Darwin Nunez, to name just a few.

Now, according to The Athletic‘s Pearce on X, Serie A champions Napoli are preparing an offer for Nunez, with the Liverpool attacker happy to move there this summer:

“Napoli’s interest in Darwin Nunez has been registered and an offer is expected in due course. The Italian champions are the most serious contenders for the 25-year-old and he is open to moving to Naples.”

Saudi Pro League the better option for Liverpool to sell Nunez to?

It does feel as though the end of Nunez’s time at Liverpool is close, with no real indication that Arne Slot sees him as an important player moving forward.

In truth, a move to the Saudi Pro League could be more beneficial for the Reds, in terms of the money they could receive for the Uruguayan, but Napoli still feels like a good fit for him.

A swap deal with Victor Osimhen could even be welcomed by some Liverpool fans, should the Nigerian be their ideal No.9 signing of choice for Slot this summer.

Sadly, Nunez has never quite got going for the Reds, despite sporadic moments of joy, and he will ultimately be called a disappointing signing, despite praise from Jamie Carragher early in his Anfield career.

“When you look at his minutes on the pitch and how many goals he’s scored per minute…his numbers are actually scary! He’s actually made a huge impact. But there’s still something not quite there, where Jurgen Klopp’s going to play him every single game. I think he’s got [similarities to] Fernando Torres. He’s got that power, physically, to knock defenders off. And that blistering pace. But at times, maybe technically, not the best in terms of general play.”

Nunez can still go on to enjoy a good career, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him scoring at a good rate in Italy, but he hasn’t cut the mustard for Liverpool.
