Liverpool have received a boost in their efforts to complete the signing of Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen this summer, following a fresh transfer update.
The Reds have been linked with a move for the 19-year-old in recent weeks, with a host of top Premier League clubs thought to be eyeing him up.
Huijsen has enjoyed an outstanding season for Bournemouth, proving to be an influential figure and performing with a maturity beyond his years at the heart of their defence.
Now, Liverpool’s hopes of snapping up the Spain Under-21 international have increased, with EPL Index reporting that Chelsea are dropping out of the race to sign him.
The Blues are on the “brink” of bailing out, with the Bournemouth centre-back “expressing his desire to play his football elsewhere next season.”
It is stated that Liverpool and Arsenal have “held preliminary talks over a summer move and are believed to be in a much stronger position to land the young defender due to their standing in domestic and European football.”
A potential “gem” of a signing for Liverpool
On current form, Huijsen is one of the most exciting defenders in world football, with his performances for Bournemouth consistently impressive.
The teenager was exceptional in the Cherries’ 1-0 win at home to Fulham on Monday night, making an incredible 16 defensive actions and 13 clearances, according to FotMob, while Sky Sports commentator Bill Leslie lauded him during the game:
“You suspect that the years to come will be quite rewarding for that young man. I don’t know if he’s had a chance to open his presents but there might be some quite generous offers from other clubs sitting on his kitchen table when he gets home. Andoni Iraola has been saying that he [Huijsen] has not been talking about his future, he’s not thinking that far ahead, but no doubt about it – they’ve unearthed a gem there, haven’t they?”
The lure of Liverpool should be great for Huijsen, considering they are about to be crowned the new Premier League champions and the fact that he could learn from playing alongside a legendary figure in Virgil van Dijk.
Admittedly, there is strong competition for his signature, but if the Reds could persuade him to pick them, they could have a future superstar defender in their ranks.
