A fresh summer exit rumour regarding an “outstanding” Liverpool player’s future has emerged, courtesy of reliable journalist Chris Bascombe.
This summer promises to be one of the most exciting at Anfield in years, with plenty of funds expected to come Arne Slot’s way.
Liverpool may be the new Premier League champions, but improvements can still be made in the squad, ensuring that the Reds are even more of a force next season.
There are some current players whose futures remain up in the air, one of whom is Diogo Jota, following a campaign that has been affected by injuries.
According to The Telegraph‘s Bascombe, Saudi Pro League clubs are “considering a move” for the 28-year-old in the summer transfer window.
The report does state that it is “unlikely” that Liverpool “would sell three attackers” before next season, with the likes of Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa potentially moving on, but “it remains to be seen what size bids will materialise”.
Is Jota’s time up at Liverpool?
Jota has been a good servant for Liverpool, arguably proving to be their most ruthless finisher at times, scoring 65 goals in 179 appearances – an impressive return for a player who hasn’t always been a starter.
The £7.3m-a-year-earning Portuguese has scored some important goals this season, as well as being lauded by Clinton Morrison, who said of him after his key cameo away to Nottingham Forest: “He has been outstanding since he has come on, Diogo Jota,” says Morrison. “He could have had a hat-trick! That is a great save from Sels. He spreads and has to come out.”
Sadly, there is an argument to say that Jota may have peaked, due more to injuries catching up with him than his age, and he has struggled for form towards the end of this season.
For that reason, it could make sense to cash in on him if a hefty offer arrives from Saudi Arabia in the coming weeks and months, allowing Liverpool to sign a younger upgrade with better availability to lead the line.
If Jota stays at Anfield, it certainly wouldn’t be a bad thing, though, with Nunez a more important player to move on to pastures new.
