Liverpool have now reportedly entered the race to complete the signing of an England international who has been described as a “joy to play with”.

The Reds couldn’t have asked for a much better summer in the transfer market, barring missing out on Marc Guehi on deadline day.

Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz are world-class additions, both of whom arrived for record-breaking amounts of money, while Hugo Ekitike looks like a fantastic addition, too, as well as the likes of Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez.

Liverpool’s midfield may be one of their strongest areas, with Wirtz joining the likes of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones, but now another player has been linked there.

According to TEAMtalk, the Reds have joined the race to sign Crystal Palace and England ace Adam Wharton, with the Eagles valuing him at £60m. A possible January exit is mentioned.

Manchester United, Newcastle United and Chelsea are also mentioned as options for the 21-year-old, who has already matured into such an impressive performer in the middle of the park for Palace.

Is Wharton the perfect 2026 addition for Liverpool?

Wharton is a lovely footballer to watch, with the FA Cup-winning Englishman possessing an effortless class in front of the defence, both in and out of possession, and being lauded by Eberechi Eze for his brilliance.

“He’s an incredible player to play with. Playing with him at Palace, I’ve got used to seeing the way he plays and understanding him. He’s very calm, composed, and a joy to play with. For someone so young, he’s very mature and very wise. When you speak to him, it feels like you’re speaking to someone older than you, that’s the type of person he is. He’s an incredible player.”

Wharton could join Liverpool next year as a great young option behind Gravenberch and Mac Allister in a deep-lying position, taking up a squad role to begin with but still earning plenty of minutes.

But if he reaches his potential, the Premier League champions will have a future starter on their hands, with the Palace star a player with so much long-term promise, always playing with such maturity and already making 49 appearances for the Eagles.
