Liverpool are “considering signing” Bayern Munich legend Joshua Kimmich at the end of the season, according to journalist Christian Falk.
The Reds are expected to have a quiet January, even though Arne Slot hasn’t completely ruled out new faces being added to his squad.
Supporters will hope that things are different come the summer window, however, with reinforcements needed, in order to help take Liverpool to another level moving forward.
According to Falk on X, Kimmich is a target for the Merseysiders come the end of the campaign, with the 29-year-old available on a free contract when his contract expires:
Our thoughts on Liverpool signing Kimmich this summer…
Kimmich has enjoyed an outstanding career, winning the Champions League with Bayern back in 2020, not to mention sealing Bundesliga title glory on eight occasions. Germany legend Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has heaped praise on the midfielder, too, saying:
“It is no exaggeration to say that Joshua Kimmich is the very embodiment of world-class. There’s only one Joshua Kimmich and we’re very glad he plays at Bayern.”
There is no denying Kimmich’s brilliance as a footballer, with the Germany international not only a world-class midfielder but also capable of shining as a right-back.
The biggest thing working against Liverpool signing the Bayern star is the fact that he turns 30 next month, however, meaning his best days may soon be behind him.
Granted, the fact that Kimmich would be available on a free transfer takes away some of the risk element there, but Slot may want to look at a younger midfield option this summer, rather than a quick fix.
It is easy to him excelling for Liverpool, but signing a player around 30 years of age hasn’t been part of their transfer approach in the recent, barring Thiago, which was a move that ultimately didn’t fully work out.
Reds supporters would likely be excited if a player of Kimmich’s calibre came in, given his reputation, but it would be a surprise if it happened.
