Liverpool could be interested in completing the signing of an “extraordinary” Premier League player, according to an intriguing transfer update.
After such a bright start to the season, certainly in terms of results over performances, the Reds have gone into the international break in poor form, losing three games in a row.
While Liverpool have struggled in various areas of the pitch – new attacking signings have taken time to gel, for example – they have looked particularly unconvincing in defence.
Failing to sign Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi at the end of the summer transfer window was a real shame, and there is a need for a new central defender to come in, certainly by next summer.
According to a new update from talkSPORT, Liverpool were keen on signing Newcastle United defender Sven Botman earlier this year, having already nabbed Alexander Isak away from the Magpies.
They could return for him in 2026, with the Dutchman scoring “strongly in Liverpool’s data driven approach over the summer.”
Botman an outstanding transfer option for Liverpool
Botman may have had his injury problems, which would make Liverpool signing him a slight risk, but he is still only 25 years of age, and has returned positively from a lengthy absence.
For that reason, he could be a brilliant addition for the Premier League champions, with Eddie Howe speaking glowingly about him earlier this year:
“He has been very dedicated to his recovery. We’ve seen him put in an extraordinary amount of work before he started training with us. He has been training with us now for six weeks, I think. He has had three games and looked good in those games. Of course he won’t be at his optimum level but that will come in the following months.”
Ibrahima Konate’s future will be key to Liverpool’s transfer business, with Real Madrid still linked with him, but frankly, the Frenchman’s current form means an upgrade is arguably required even if he stays.
While Guehi remains the best possible option for the Reds, Botman stands out as another great choice, with the Reds threatening to damage relations with Newcastle even more by signing him.
